Dom stays up late for big night out

Tuesday 1 July 2008

With daylight hours at full stretch, children across the UK are pestering their parents to stay up late. It’s no different for sealions!

Cheeky pup Dominic at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo’s is just itching to join in the fun on Zoo Nights this Friday, when the zoo stays open late for one night only.

The cute, lively youngster – who turned one this month - has got round mum Salt and dad Berkley, and will be joining in when the sealions demonstrate their behaviour and natural skills in the Splashzone, for two twilight shows that evening.

Dom is already able to demonstrate how keepers give him a health check by lifting his front flipper on his little stand on the pool’s edge.

He’s also desperate to have fun and can be seen messing around with the hose and jumping up out of the pool attempting to splash the audience. But don’t expect him to behave, he is a toddler after all!

Dom is named after BBC Radio One breakfast show newsreader Dominic Byrne, whose favourite animal at the zoo is the pup’s dad, Berkley.

The sealion show is one of many events at Zoo Nights on July 4th, with a steel band, African dancers and fire dancers adding to the spectacular evening as the sun sets over the Chiltern Hills.

Zoo Nights at ZSL London Zoo takes place on 1st August. 2008
