Earthshot Prize Finalists
Coast 4C, an impact-driven business working with coastal communities in the Philippines to build a dependable supply of quality, responsible seaweed for global markets, has been named as a Finalist for The Earthshot Prize for its work to revive our oceans and build more prosperous and resilient coastal communities.
ZSL conservation
This impactful initiative started life as a scientific research project here at ZSL, before conservationists developed it into our award-winning Net-Works programme. Recognising its potential for growth, the project was spun out of ZSL in 2020 to create Coast 4C, an independent social enterprise impacting community, environment and business.
Earthshot Prize finalists unveiled
At the third-annual Earthshot Innovation Summit in New York, held in partnership with Bloomberg Philanthropies, The Earthshot Prize unveiled its fourth cohort of Prize Finalists, an inspiring group of global innovators, entrepreneurs, community leaders and advocates pioneering solutions to our most pressing climate and environmental challenges. Hailing from every continent, this year’s 15 Finalists were selected from The Earthshot Prize’s most competitive pool of nominations yet – a total of nearly 2,500 solutions representing 139 countries.
Conservation driven by science
ZSL Marine Scientist Prof. Heather Koldewey said: “We are thrilled that a ZSL project that started with science, then implemented as a conservation programme has evolved into an independent enterprise with such huge conservation and business impact. We are particularly delighted that almost two decades later, Coast 4C is led by Dr Nick Hill and Amado Blanco who pioneered our early conservation efforts in the Philippines.”
What is the Earthshot Prize?
